2020 AusMumpreneur QLD-NT Digital Innovation Gold Award winner, Rebecca Dredge is a mother of two and founder of Kiddo App.

Rebecca launched Kiddo App in September 2019. Thousands of parents and babysitters use the app to manage their babysitting needs, saving them time, money and stress that is normally associated with babysitting.

Kiddo App gives parents more time and freedom by connecting them to local, verified, affordable babysitters and nannies instantly.

Kiddo App is the first of its kind in Australia. For parents it provides peace of mind through its review and rating system. Also reassurance knowing all babysitters/nannies that have been fully identified, with Working with Children Checks completed.

When did you start your business?

My journey started in 2019 when I left my full time job in the Corporate world.

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

As a working mother I struggled finding time for myself and finding my ‘village’. Many of my friends had young children and my parents lived far away. I knew this was a common problem many parents experienced. So I wanted to create an app that helped  parents when it came to finding care for their children.

What are you most excited about in your business?

Kiddo is unlike anything else and really provides parents with a safe place to find the best carers for their children. We initially launched as a Babysitting app but are now branching out to Nanny services and have so much more planned for the app itself! It is so satisfying to know we have created a community that really serves parents and babysitters alike.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

My greatest challenge has been starting a business in an industry I had no prior experience in and doing this digitally.

To successful create, operate and manage Kiddo App, I have upskilled and learnt everything I possibly could.  Basically I had to re-invent myself after twelve years in the finance industry. I have had to become an ‘expert’ in the childcare/babysitting industry, make new contacts and really push past boundaries. I have also forged my way through the digital world of start-ups to operate a completely digital business. Prior to Kiddo App I didn’t even have a Facebook account! This has been the biggest challenge by far.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

It is like having a newborn – it is the hardest thing you do yet the most rewarding at the same time. Have faith in yourself and remember that other people are really inspired by what you do – so always shine!

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

I wanted to connect with likeminded women, join a community that could help both my business and myself personally. As a sole founder times get lonely and it’s great to connect with other amazing women.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

The best part was actually writing the application, I found it was a time to reflect and celebrate just how far Kiddo had come in such a short period of time. Day to day we get so engrossed with our businesses that we don’t often stop to reflect!

What surprised you most about the awards?

Winning one! To win the Digital Award was just incredible! I still stare at my trophy every day!

How did the awards help you in your business?

It allowed me to connect with other business women. Winning the award really gave our brand further credibility, we have since won other awards, which I think the AusMumpreneur process really catapulted things.

What advice would you give to others mums thinking about entering the awards?

Do it, you’ve got nothing to lose – everything to gain. The application process is a time to reflect, judging is a time to gain experience and confidence. It is an overall great experience to grow!

What’s happening next in your business? Any big plans for the future?

We are now entering our first capital raise to expand nationally.

Kiddo is looking to scale nationally then into New Zealand, we are very excited to help more families and empower women to access to flexible earning options!
